“Every time when a villain shows up, it becomes very excited”: Interview with Da, the founder of JONE 500

In this issue of ASIAN VOICE, we feature JONE 500, a streetwear brand from Thailand. It combines the fashion elements such as X-Treme sport, Skateboard, BMX, Hip Hop with the villain in movie to show the excitement. That is the reason that you can see many masked men or skeletons in the designs.

Nana: Please tell us the basic story about JONES 500.

Da: Every time in the movie, when a villain shows up, that scene become so excited, super cool and have a power of the greatest. So I think this character combine with fashion will be great and easy to understand.

Nana: Why did you initially create the brand and name it “JONES 500”?

Da: JONES 500 is a Thai word called Bandit, Suspect. And we play with this character but not bad as a name is we represent an underground, Invisible person and put some joke in it.

Nana: What has influenced the creation of the brand and the pieces designed for your brand? -Has culture (art, music, film, etc.) or other styles influenced you in the making of your brand?

Da: X-Treme sport, Skateboard, BMX, Hip Hop Elements I grow up and surrounding by this people so that inspire and push this Brand.

Nana: We saw many skeleton elements in your design and your logo, is there any messages
that you want to convey by it? If so, what is it?

Da: When I named JONES 500 so the character , logos are bandit, weapon, money, mystery, skeleton are the elements of our brand.

Nana: Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had during the process of building your brand?

Da: I don’t have much troubles, because I start from fun, enjoy and optimistic. I fix it with my
own way and get through all the problems.

Nana: How do you come up and decide on the themes for your collections?

Da: I image about name of the brand and main character, I design it bu myself so its not
complicated just emphasize what JONES 500 is.

Nana: Is it possible to let readers know a little about your next drop (collection)? If so, what has inspired the theme and the pieces in them?

Da: Of course! Next collection will be Halloween with Black/Orange theme. Our fans waiting for this collection. It is the month of mystery and thats what we are. We work really hard for this collection.

Nana: Do you have any advice for our readers who are seeking to find a way to build an innovative brand like “JONES 500”?

Da: You need to know and understand a component of your brand but you’ll get force with
marketing situation so be patient. I believe in brand creator who loves fashion will not
give up easily and will create something new again and again.
