Meet Jay, the director of INSILENCE, a dynamic fashion brand that seamlessly blends streetwear with high fashion. In this interview, Jay shares the captivating story behind INSILENCE’s founding in 2016, inspired by a lyric that resonates with the brand’s ethos. She discusses the creative process that drives their unique designs, the importance of careful observation in finding inspiration, and offers a glimpse into their upcoming collection. Join us as we explore Jay’s vision for INSILENCE and what it means to embody modernity, independence, and sensibility in today’s fashion landscape.
Can you share the story of how INSILENCE was founded?

Jay: INSILENCE was launched in 2016 by two founders: one is in charge of design, while the other manages operations. One day, one of the founders was captivated when he heard the phrase “in silence” in a song, which inspired the brand name. This choice resonates well with his quiet personality.

We see a unique blend of streetwear and high fashion in your designs. Could you elaborate on your design concepts?

Jay: Exactly. We simply followed our passions. Like many fashion enthusiasts, we’ve been exploring vintage markets, streetwear stores, department stores, and high-end luxury brands since we were young. These days, I feel the spirit of experimentation has diminished quite a bit. The clothes I actually wear have become more polished, but I still see a wide range of styles out there. Perhaps this inclination reflects that shift.

Where do you typically find inspiration, and can you share a sneak peek of your next collection?

Jay: We are a company, not just a small atelier, so I try to approach things from a broader sales perspective. I find that my inspiration comes from careful observation—paying attention to customer responses and changing trends—rather than experiencing sudden bursts of creativity.

Our next collection seeks to transform the mood we’ve maintained for several seasons. As I mentioned before, we create what we love and what looks cool. I plan to bring that same sense of variation into the upcoming season. Right now, I’m particularly fascinated by the concept of perverse elegance. If you’re curious, don’t forget to keep an eye out for it!

How would you describe INSILENCE in three words?

Jay: Modernistic, independent and Sensibility!

What kind of personality and lifestyle do you think people who wear INSILENCE embody?

Jay: A person with a truly strong and wonderful soul, unbound by stereotypes, possesses an open mind while being steadfast in their beliefs and unwilling to compromise.

What do you believe is the most important factor in building a successful brand?

Jay: It’s difficult to determine what’s cooler—whether to stick to a single brand color and maintain a consistent concept, or to adapt smartly to changing trends. The key is to live at your own pace. Don’t exhaust yourself; keep holding on, keep loving what you do, and keep moving forward.

What advice would you offer to individuals who aspire to establish their own business in
the fashion industry?

Jay: Whatever you do, follow your passion. However, the most important thing is that you can only achieve results when you have a healthy body and mind.
