Interview with Bad Habits: “Please focus more on developing the ‘Story-Quality’ of the product and the ‘Experience’ of the customer”

  • 2022-05-21
  • Cross-talk with NANA

In this issue, we welcome Bad Habits, a streetwear brand from Vietnam. The brand has a heavy focus on the “story” of each product and how it can and spread the youthful spirit along with the culture Vietnam has to offer.

Nana : What is the story behind the beginning of Bad Habits?

Bad Habits : Bad Habits was established in April 2017 with the first store at 350 Dien Bien Phu, after 4 years of establishment and development. Bad Habits now has 10 stores in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Can Tho. We are proud to be one of the first local brands generation to create a turning point for the Vietnamese streetwear market.

Nana : Why did you initially create the brand?

Bad Habits : Bad Habits is one of a few Vietnamese brands that chooses the brand form as Rebel-Outlaw (what we want to aim for when choosing this form is to break standards and change behavior in a positive way: Rebellion – personality – creativity ) , we want to become the voice of young people, Gen Z, who want to assert their individuality and express their individuality.

With the slogan: “Bad is not bad”, we wants to be the voice of young people: We are individual, we are different, but we always prove our worth to others and society.

Nana : What are some of the inspirations behind the brand?

Bad Habits : The biggest influence on the creation of the Bad Habits brand and the Brand’s designs is Vietnamese’s street culture – specifically streetwear fashion. We are young generation who are extremely fond of streetwear products, and at that time there were very few fashion brands that conveyed messages about Vietnamese street culture. So we decided to create a streetwear fashion brand that focuses a lot on the story as well as the quality of products that imbued with the Vietnamese spirit.

Nana : What is something that your brand value the most?

Bad Habits : As a young man who loves streetwear culture, we do not only want to give customers a good
experience of our products, but also want to convey positive messages through stories, Vietnamese’s culture and specially feel confident when wearing “Bad Habits” anywhere.

Nana : In what way do you use social media as a platform to deliver your products and designs?

Bad Habits : For social media channels, Facebook and Instagram are 2 main channels we use for building
brand and communicating with customers . Our website focuses on detailed descriptions of items and it is a channel for customers to directly check and purchase. In addition, we has been growing stronger on other platforms such as youtube, tiktok, etc…

Nana : Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had during
the process of building your brand?

Bad Habits : During the time of operation to date, we have encountered so many problems and one of them is the process of shaping style & spirit for Bad Habits. This is also the most difficult step because to separate Bad Habits from many brands on the market is not an easy thing. Beside that, Bad Habits is also gradually creating its own mark of “Vietnamese” and increasingly asserting the style of the Vietnamese Local brand.

Nana : How do you decide on the themes of your colections?

Bad Habits : When deciding on the theme, we will focus on the brand spirit. Sometimes the theme also comes
suddenly when we follow inspiration from popular culture or simply an idea that is close to our daily images (Vietnamese workers, provinces in Vietnam,… )

Nana : Can we know a little about your next collection?

Bad Habits : We can only reveal that the new collection will be a breakthrough of Bad Habits, with a completely new spirit, message and improvements the materials and functions of our products. Let’s wait and see what would happen next!

Nana : Is there a particular artist, movie, place, book that you would recommend our readers to
check for inspiration?

Bad Habits : To be honest, the inspiration of Bad Habits is all about the daily life of young Vietnamese people,
so it is very difficult to point out one specifically.
For some inspiration, I can mention Virgil Abloh, Kanye West with great musical and fashion thinking. Two documentary series ,HipHop Evolution and Jeen-Yuhs , and the book bu Phil Knight (Nike Founder) – Shoe Dog.

Nana : Do you have any advice for our readers who are seeking to find a way to build a
distinct and clear brand like “Bad Habits”?

Bad Habits : Please focus more on developing the “Story – Quality” of the product and the “Experience” of the
customer. Those are the main keywords that we can give to you – those who are passionate and want to build a fashion brand for your own.

.

“Let’s wait and see what would happen next!”
