Nana: Fashion has infinite possibilities, and new power is born from it. As a carrier of culture and times, fashion encompasses everything. From trendy to traditional culture, from celebrities, idols to everyone’s daily life, and from West to East, it is our discourse, our power, our time. Through Asian Voice, we hope to spread the local Asian fashion culture to the world by moving cross languages and borders.

In this issue of ASIAN VOICE, we are thrilled to introduce DIDU, a Chinese designer brand. Di Du has an exceptional talent for showcasing the beauty of the human body through her designs. Its designs are especially empowering for women, as they celebrate the curves and contours of the female form, and encourage confidence and strength. DIDU seamlessly blends Western influences with her feminine and elegant aesthetic. The brand’s focus on silhouette and tailoring is groundbreaking, and they prioritize using technical and sustainable fabrics to create a diverse range of designs that embody their brand image.

Since its establishment in 2019, DIDU has showcased their collections at Paris Fashion Week for four consecutive seasons, earning international acclaim for their remarkable foresight, inclusivity, and precise control of fashion trends. This Chinese designer brand is shining brightly on the world stage.

Nana: Can you please introduce yourself briefly and tell us how you created DIDU in the first place?

Di Du: I graduated from Antwerp fashion department master class 2019, then I founded my brand same year.

Nana: DIDU’s designs reflect the curves of women and the beauty of their bodies. What is the brand’s philosophy behind them?
Di Du: I want to use my design to empowering people who wears it.
Nana: What do you imagine a woman wearing DIDU to be like in your mind?
Di Du: Strong, independent, sharp, queen of herself.
Nana: How do you come up and decide on the themes for your collections?

Di Du: I would say it’s from everyday life. I absorb from everything around me, and imagine them as a story or detail of the collection. Mostly I start with few words that describes my feeling and emotion, then I connect them with colors and materials.

Nana: The Fall/Winter 2023 show was a clever combination of cheongsam and ballet costumes. How did the inspiration for this collection come about, and what are your expectations for the next collection?

Di Du: It was my fourth collection in Paris fashion week calendar. I feel it’s the distance creates beauty, that from far looking at my own culture that inspired me more than when I was in it.

Next one I want to express more darker feeling.

Nana: What is your impression on Asia fashion, especially for Chinese designer brands?

Di Du: I think we need to be more original and less commercial thinking format. Not only focus on business, that’s the way to foster art and real fashion.

Nana: Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had in the process of building your brand?

Di Du: I think it’s to balance the business and the artistic aspect, and cash flow and invest in the beginning.

Di Du: To really know what you are pursuing, and stick to it!
